Question
Looking for a wood fireplace insert with a water jacket. Saw it available in Europe. Is there any source here?

a water jacket will make it possible to hook up the insert to whole house hot water heating system. i’m looking also for such an insert. i have seen piping encased in concrete below the fire grate, with pipes/\.
I have seen a furnace with a viewing window (Charmaster)but it would not work for a retrofit - I would also like to find what you are looking for - let me know if you find one.
A friend has purchased a used fireplace insert. The vent opening is 8″. When he went to a home store to buy the piping they told him 6″ is the largest diameter available. Is it not against code to choke down the flue opening?
I also have a “Hydro Heater” unit in my house. It has worked well for several years. It is connected to my main boiler by a separate pump and circulates water through the whole housed heating system when turned on and a fire is built in the stove. I am also interested in finding a replacement should it become necessary.

I don’t know of one, and wonder why you would want one. My insert has a fan, of course, to push heat into the room. I would think a water jacket would not be compatible with a fan. It would delay giving off heat. Of course it would also keep delivering heat for longer than one like mine.
